Service Detail - Won the Military Medal and was twice Mentioned in Dispatches for Pozieres. During the Somme Winter and twice nominated for the Distinguished Conduct Medal (Bullecourt and Messines) before receiving the Military Medal for the Battle of Messines on 6 June 1917.
An Anzac Original, he was in the Gallipoli landing was wounded at Quinn’s Post and in the August attack on Sari Bair; refused repatriation when hospitalised in Alexandria and was a Die Hard in Harry Murray’s company at the Evacuation. After his wounds, he retrained as a stretcher bearer in England and was head of the brigade stretcher bearers at Messines.
Con returned to Australia on 7 February 1920 aboard the Konigan Luise. Born in Rookwood on 13 June 1890, he died at home in Bellingen 23 October 1949 of “war related injuries”. Con was survived by 5 children, 21 grandchildren and manymany great grand children.
